This service does not provide legal or fire safety certification. What we can do Replace batteries in existing smoke, heat and carbon monoxide alarms Install or replace battery operated alarms, following the manufacturer’s instructions Visually check alarm condition and placement during a routine property visit Record alarm status in a written report with dated photographs Recommend a suitably qualified specialist where mains powered, interlinked or fixed wiring work is required A heat detector is not a replacement for a smoke alarm where a smoke alarm is required. The appropriate alarm type and placement depend on the property, the room and the manufacturer’s instructions. What we do not do Mains powered, interlinked or hard wired alarm systems require an appropriately qualified electrical specialist. SERV4U does not carry out this work directly, but can arrange an introduction or coordinate access with a trusted partner where agreed in writing. Gas appliance repair and gas safety certification are also outside our scope and are referred to a Gas Safe registered specialist. Why this matters for landlords in England Landlords in England have a legal duty to ensure at least one smoke alarm is equipped on every storey used as living accommodation, and a carbon monoxide alarm is equipped in any room used as living accommodation that contains a fixed combustion appliance, excluding gas cookers.
